Janet Louise Divers, 85, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Ventura, California, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at St. Luke's Living Center West. A Celebration of Life gathering will be Tuesday, December 11th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. A second Celebration of Life and inurnment will be held at Ivy Lawn Cemetery, Ventura, California, in January. Janet was born August 28, 1927 in Tacoma, Washington, the daughter of James M. and Harriet "June" (Thomas) Knox. She moved with her family from Tacoma to Los Angeles in 1930. She graduated from Hollywood High School in 1945. Janet married Arnold Spargur, to this union 2 children were born, Valerie and Dwight. They were later divorced. Janet married John Divers, a retired USAF Sergeant, and father of three children, Christopher, Celeste and Craig. Janet and John traveled throughout Europe and the United States and enjoyed many interests. Janet worked in data processing most of her life, retiring from Northrup Gruman. She owned and operated Jan's Embroidery in Ventura, California, designing and implementing personal and commercial products. Janet enjoyed learning to fly an airplane, creating a home retreat, gardening, bowling, sewing, drawing, singing, playing the organ, and spending time with her friends and family. Janet is survived by her daughter Valerie (Claude) Stilwell of Cedar Rapids; step-children Christopher Divers of Garland, Texas, Craig (Cindy) Divers of Bulverde, Texas, and Celeste (Thomas) Vint of Santa Paula, California; fourteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchild and one great-greatgrandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother James Knox, husband John Divers, her son Dwight Spargur, and a grandson Nathan Spargur. Because of Janet's love for animals, the family asks in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to a wildlife foundation or animal shelter of the donor's choice in her name.
