Marshall
January 25, 1953 – March 7, 2026
Jane Elizabeth Marshall, 73, of Solon, IA passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Solon Nursing Care Center after a short battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.
The funeral will be held on May 2, 2026 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City, IA. The visitation will be from 9:30 until 11:00am and the funeral will begin at 11:00am. A luncheon celebrating Jane's life will be served immediately following the service in the church's fellowship hall. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre are assisting the family at this time.
Jane was born on January 25, 1953, in Osage, IA to Keith and Annette Marshall. She was the 3rd of 4 daughters. Sister to Sheila, Kay and Wendy. Jane and her sisters were very close their entire lives. They have many, many stories of their wonderful childhood and the mischief they got into. Jane attended Osage High School, where she was a cheerleader and a drum majorette. She also worked as a lifeguard and at Stan's Drive-in as a carhop. She graduated in 1971 and then attended Mankato St. University. She moved to Iowa City and married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Jahnel in 1975. They had 2 children, Erin and Jeff, and lived in North Liberty, IA. Jane was a dental assistant, home health care nurse and a pharmacy technician. She was very caring and a favorite among her patients, co-workers, and customers.
Jane was an amazing mom, granny, sister, aunt, and friend. She would do anything for her kids when they were growing up and was very involved in every aspect of their lives. She was a Girl Scout leader, a Religious Ed Teacher, Cub Scout leader, and a room parent at school. Always willing to step in wherever she was needed and so she could spend as much time as she could with her kids. She was her kid's biggest cheerleader, always so proud of everything they did in life up until the very end. They never doubted for one second how much she loved them. She was a favorite among her kid's friends and her nieces and nephews, always having so much fun and had a great sense of humor. She would talk to anyone, anywhere. Jane was a great listener and made friends easily and wherever she went. She cherished her friendships, many of which lasted a lifetime. Jane couldn't wait to become a grandma (or Granny as she chose to be called). She was blessed with her first grandchild in 2006 and the love she had for her grandson Cade was abundant. In 2009, Jane suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury, 2 months after her first Granddaughter, Hayden, was born. That changed the course of Jane's life, and she experienced a lot of hard times after that, struggling to adjust to her new reality. But it didn't stop her from being the best Granny she could be for her 7 grandkids. Jane had many interests including gardening, crocheting and playing games with her grandkids. Jane was kind, loving, giving, sweet, beautiful, funny and feisty. She kept the nurses and staff in Solon on their toes and wasn't afraid to tell them what she really thought. She kept us laughing until the very end, calling everyone "darling", "stinker" or her favorite "turkeybutt". Jane will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. We are comforted by the fact that she is whole again, and is watching over us from Heaven.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children Erin (Chad) Dyson, Jeff (Amy) Jahnel; grandchildren Cade, Hayden, Jace, Beckham, Ellis, Gabriel, and Abigail; 2 sisters Sheila (Jerome) Fawcett and Wendy (Jim) Paulson; and many nieces and nephews.
Those preceding her in death include her parents Keith and Annette Marshall; sister Kay Tetrault; and niece Jenifer Miller.
Memorials may be directed to the family in Jane's honor to help support her grandchildren's education, something Jane had always hoped she could do.
