James Douglas "J.D." Shaddox, 70 of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center. Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel. A private family inurnment will be at a later date. J.D. was born December 5, 1943 in Harrison, Arkansas, the son of Marion Douglas and Edith (Spencer) Shaddox. He married Carolyn Horn on August 2, 1961 in Fort Madison. He was self-employed since 1970, and was the owner and operator of U-Haul on 16th Avenue SW since 2001. He was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge and the Moose Club. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time with his family and friends. J.D. is survived by his daughter, Shelly (Stephen) Morelock of Solon; his son, Bradley (Jennifer) Shaddox of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren Lindsay (Glendon) Klein and Ryan Morelock; three great-grandchildren Jayden and Colton Morelock and Leonidas Klein; his brother, Jerry (Lea Ann) Shaddox of Waterloo; his sisters, Shirley Thill of Mendota Heights, Minnesota and Carol (Ken) Knapp of Centralia, Illinois; many loving nieces and nephews; and his special friend Becky Karr and her family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn in 2007; a brother-in-law John Thill, and his parents. Memorials may be directed to the family.
