James "Jim" Donald Rice, 72 of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will be in Rogers Grove Cemetery near Ely. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Saturday at Brosh Chapel. James was born January 10, 1943 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the son of Lester and Ovalitta (McGuire) Rice. He married Judy Blankenship on August 18, 1976 in Rock Island, Illinois. Jim's children include J.R. (Paula) Rice, Kevin Rice, Brenda (Mike) Dennis, Linda (Bruce) Dennis all of Indianapolis, Indiana, Chris (Blake) Acord of Cedar Rapids, Randy Brown of Indianapolis, Indiana, John (Angela) Brown of Liberty, Danny (Rose) Brown, David Brown all of Kentucky and Debbie (Donny) Kesl of Cedar Rapids, twenty-five grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; his brother David (Sally) Rice and sisters Rosie (Ronnie) Hill and Shirley Walker all of Indianapolis, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Betty Groves and a daughter Becky Fair. Jim was a contract mail carrier for over 38 years. Many of them for the United States Postal Service. He loved the outdoors and was meticulous of his yard. Jim liked spending time with family and friends having many stories to tell. His hobbies were old cars, trucks, watching NASCAR and going to a casino. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family. Jim was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend. His jovial character will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all. The family expresses their deepest gratitude and thanks for Jim's care while at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
