James Edward Koss, 81, of Solon, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha from a brief illness.  Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon.  Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024, at St. Mary's.  Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery – Nolan Settlement. James "Jim" was born on January 22, 1942, in Iowa City, the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Fuhrmeister) Koss.  He graduated from Solon High School, class of 1960. Jim was united in marriage to Linda Arnold on October 24, 1975, in Dixon, Illinois.

Jim's greatest passions were farming, faith, and family (not necessarily in that order).  He was a 3rd generation Solon farmer who proudly farmed and raised livestock his entire life, beginning with his father and ending with his wife and children.  He was a member of the Johnson County Pork Producers and many other livestock and farming organizations throughout his career. His hobbies included mushroom hunting, raccoon hunting with his dogs, polka music, attending community breakfasts, fish fry dinners and kolache festivals, and at the top of his list were grandchildren, great grandchildren, and family gatherings. His favorite being the annual Thanksgiving family get together he and his wife Linda hosted for years. Jim's consistent response to "I love you Jim" was "I love you more", well Jim WE ALL "LOVE YOU MORE".

James is survived by his wife Linda; his children Linda (Brian) Bourgeois, Janet (Bud) Cavanah, Susan (Ron) Tremblay, James (Brenda) Koss Jr., Tiffany Koss, Jody (James) Miller, Jamie (Matt) Smith, and Dustin Koss; his fourteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his sisters Nancy (Mark) Heathman and Bonnie Lacina; his sister-in-law Nancy Nelson; as well as his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald (Sheri) Koss, grandson Dayton Koss, brother-in-law Ray Lacina, brother-in-law Dan Nelson, and niece Tammy Heathman.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church or St. Bridget's Foundation.
