Irvin Douglas Brokel, 65 of 1575 Ivanhoe Road, near Ely, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center. A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2007 at the Lisbon United Methodist Church in Lisbon. There will be a visitation and reception following services in the Church hall. Inurnment will be at a later date in Rogers Grove Cemetery, near Ely.
Doug was born September 16, 1941 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Irvin and Marrianne Butteris Brokel. He married Sharon Becicka on March 21, 1959, in Ely, with the recent celebration of 48 wonderful years together. "Kolachie" worked as a professional truck driver for over 40 years. Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, vacationing in the west and following his grandchildren's activities. Doug and Sharon spent many weekends enjoying time with their family and friends, camping, and taking Sunday drives.
Doug is survived by his wife, Sharon; their children Scott (Michelle) Brokel, Ted Brokel, Christine Brokel, Julie (Jim) Hendricks, Darren Brokel (Debbie Siebels); and eight grandchildren Nick, John, Jill, Jake, Jessie, Jake, Emma and Sam; his sisters Laurie (Jim) Holmes, JoKay Meissner, and brothers Lon (Deb) Hoke, and Tom (Cindy) Hoke.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents Irvin Brokel, Marrianne Hoke, a brother Alvin "Dicky" Brokel, and parent-in-law's John and Norma Becicka.
