Irma Rose Binko, 97 of Cedar Rapids died Saturday, July 21, 2007 at Heritage Nursing and Rehab after a brief illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Rev. Will Jackson and Rev. William Harnish presiding. Burial to follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Irma was born March 15, 1910 at home near Ely, the daughter of Adolph and Anna Vavra Konecny. She attended school at a one room county school west of Ely and graduated from Ely High School. She attended and was baptized and confirmed at 1

Presbyterian Church west of Ely. She married Louis Binko on March 20, 1930 at their home northwest of Ely. She co-owned B&E Machine shop with her husband. She was a member of Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church, CSA Prokop Velky Lodge 137, WFLA #13, Czech Heritage, Friendship Club of Ely, Federation of Czech Groups, and the Auxillary of Veterans. She sang with the Czech singers and as well as playing the accordion. She worked at Wilson School cafeteria, Dostal Catering, and Konecny's Restaurant. She loved music and taught the accordion at Boddickers for many years. She enjoyed flower gardening and cooking, and spending time with her friends and family.
Irma is survived by her sister Hedvika "Hedy" Benesh of Cedar Rapids; a sister in law Bessie Konecny of Ely; nephews and nieces including Patty Konecny of Cedar Rapids, David (Sharon) Benesh of Milo, Cherryl (Richard) Bartunek of Cedar Rapids, Sylvia (William) Courtney of Iowa City, and Bonnie (Gary) Samuels of Wapello as well as other nieces, nephews and great and greatgreat nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Louis, a baby sister Sylvia, three brothers Joseph, Charles and Albert.
Memorials may be directed to the family, Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church or Amenity Hospice.
