Inez E. Hartley, 92, died peacefully Sunday, May 26, in the room where she was born surrounded by her loving family. Services will be 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Shueyville United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Shueyville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements. Inez was born on Easter Sunday, March 27, 1921, the daughter of J. Alfred and Emma (Petrak) Witousek. She graduated from Shueyville High School in 1939. In 1947, she married the love of her life, Thomas J. Hartley on the snowy and cold day of February 6. Inez was a farm wife and worked at College Community Schools and Classified Ad section of the Gazette for many years, retiring in 1985. Inez enjoyed people. Her family, friends, church were always in her thoughts. Much of her life included activities at the College Community Schools, Shueyville Church, Iowa football games and Bowls, gardening, and baking her specialty Hickory Nut cake. Her favorite activity was spending time with her children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors. Inez is survived by her daughter Linda (John) Hey of Cedar Rapids and their children Gina (Justin) Groteleuschen of Chisinau, Moldova; Nathan Hey of Clarksville, Tennessee; Carly Hey of Iowa City; her son Terry Hartley of Galesburg, Illinois and his children Bo (Nicole) Hartley of Gulfport, Mississippi; Samantha Hartley and Zachary (Whitney) Boehme both of Galesburg, Illinois; five great-grandchildren Madeline, Kyleigh, Hannah, Isabella and Johnta. Inez was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Donald and Vernon Witousek and her husband Tom on September 3, 2007. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family in Inez's memory.
