Henrietta Mary was born to Frank and Lottie Cejka Prasil on July 15, 1918 in rural east Cedar Rapids. She was educated in area schools being actively involved in 4-H as a young woman. She married Leonard Christ Reif on October 5, 1938 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua. They farmed west of Cedar Rapids until moving to town in February of 1952. Henrietta did washings and ironings for many years to supplement the family income. She worked briefly for Ardan's Discount Store in 1966 and 1967. Her health became an issue in the mid 1970's but didn't stop her enjoying life to its fullest. Her interests included gardening, sewing, quilting, cooking, baking, traveling, feeding squirrels and birds to name a few. She took great pride in making quilts she gave to her grandchildren as they graduated high school and baby quilts for her great-grandchildren. She managed to see the oldest great-grandchild receive one of her beautiful quilts, also the largest she ever completed.
