Helen Maxine Robinson Johnson Walden, 89 of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Des Moines and Grinnell, died Friday, February 2, 2007 at Northbrook Manor Care Center. As per her wishes, her body will be donated to the Department of Anatomy at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A memorial service and inurnment will be held at a later date at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Maxine was born January 2, 1918 in Des Moines the daughter of John William and Sarah Christina Myers Robinson. She attended Drake University, receiving a Bachelor's degree in English and Music. She resided in Geneva, Marshalltown, Union, and Grinnell, Iowa. She gave piano lessons and taught music for the Grinnell Newburg School System. She also worked for the Grinnell College Development Office and later as secretary to the Dean of the college.
She is survived by her brother Jack (Carol) Robinson of Springfield, Illinois; her daughter Lynn Ann Johnson Dragoo of Menominee, Michigan; her son-in-law James Ernest Sixta of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren James Ernest (Debra) Sixta II of Des Moines, Sara Christine (Adam) Sixta Hunter of Cedar Rapids, Brianna Kay Dragoo of Menominee, Michigan; and two great-grandchildren Samantha Christina Sixta of Des Moines, and Ian Dale Hunter of Cedar Rapids. Maxine was preceded into death by her parents John William Robinson and Sarah Christina Myers Robinson, her two husbands Dale Johnson, and Evan Walden; and her daughter Dale Christine Johnson Sixta.
