Harry Jerome Eldon Land, 83 of Swisher, died Monday, March 19, 2018 at his home. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018 at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will be in Blain Cemetery near Swisher, where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre.
Harry was born November 15, 1934 in Northwood, the son of Clayton and Laura (Myli) Land. Harry joined the United States Air Force in 1951. He was deployed in France, Japan, and Korea during his distinguished 23 year career, retiring in 1975. Harry was united in marriage to Mary Frances David on August 3, 1956, in Oswego, South Carolina. After retiring he acquired the family farm in Northwood, in 1975, and began farming. He later purchased a farm in Swisher in 1989, where he continued farming to this day. Harry enjoyed farming, building miniature carriages, rebuilding of small engines. He built the home which he and Mary have lived in since 1996. Family was very important to Harry as he would share his love of life with them.
Harry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary; his children Clayton (Christine) Land and Becky (Larry) Reutzel both of Swisher and Kim (Scott) Fuhrmeister of Solon; eight grandchildren Adam (Meghan) Reutzel, Ben Reutzel, Jordan Land, Joe Fuhrmeister, Anne Land, Austin Reutzel, Tanner Fuhrmeister and Andrea Reutzel; his sisters Luan Sallee and Lilly Anderson both of Albert Lea, Minnesota and Carolyn Kalvig of Northwood; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Lila (Fred) Funk and Frances Christensen, his brother Andrew (Joann) Land, his brothers-in-law Don Sallee, John Anderson and Carl Kalvig.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
