Harry "Burl" Johnson, 86, of Swisher, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2022, at Shueyville United Methodist Church. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2022, at Shueyville United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in Anderson Cemetery in Swisher. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Burl was born on September 20, 1936, in Quasqueton, the son of Harry and Philoma (Bentley) Johnson. He graduated from Quasqueton High School, and shortly thereafter he entered the Army with his friend Ernie. Upon returning home, Burl was married to the love of his life, Marilyn Reagan on September 14, 1958, in Independence. They just celebrated their 64 th wedding anniversary. He has worked at Allis Chalmers, John Deere, Harnischfeger, Penford/Ingredion, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed working in his yard and garden, as well as most of all spending time with his loving family.
Burl is survived by his loving wife Marilyn; son Doug (Cherie) Johnson; grandchildren Allison (George), Andrea (Warren), Jeremy and Dan; three great-grandchildren Cruz, Kaylee and baby Kinzlee; his brother Dean (Cindee); his sisters Betty and Linda; his sister-in-law Jean; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jane on August 28, 2021, two sisters Diana and Beverly (Jerry), and his brother Frank.
Memorials may be directed to your local animal shelter, to the Stead Family Children's Hospital, or St. Jude's Children's Hospital in his name.
