Harold "Bud" Earl Spores Jr., 69, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, December 17, 2020. Private Celebration of Life services will be at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre. The service will be recorded and a link will be available on Wednesday on Bud's obituary page at www.broshchapel.com Burial will be in Saude Cemetery near Protivin. Public visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2020, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. The family requests everyone attending to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Harold was born January 26, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Harold and Maxine (White) Spores. He served in the United States Navy. Harold was united in marriage to Karol Ellingson on November 5, 1971 in Saude. Bud retired from Liebovich Steel and Aluminum in 2014. He was avid car enthusiast and a member of the MSRA (Minnesota Street Rod Association), NSRA, and Cedar Valley Street Rods. He used his creative talents, doing woodworking and steel crafting. Going fishing, hunting and spending time with the family, especially the granddaughters were special times for Bud.
Harold is survived by his wife Karol; his daughter Leisa (Chris) Knudson of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters Serena and Sophie Knudson; siblings Myra Barrette of Cedar Rapids, Jerry (Debbie) Spores of Cedar Rapids, Stanley (Joyce) Spores of the Phillipines, John (Sheryl) Spores of Center Junction, and Bill Spores of Indianola; his brother-in-law Ken (LouAnn) Ellingson of Spencer; his sister-in-law Karlene (Ron) Humpal of Decorah; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Harold "BJ" III, his sister Arlene (Tom) Barrow, brother-in-law Gene Barrette, sister-in-law Karen Ellingson, and his mother and father-in-law Millie and Omer Ellingson.
Memorials may be directed to either Camp Courageous, Saude Lutheran Church or to the family.
