Gladys Elizabeth Chaloupka, 79 of Solon, died Thursday March 21, 2013 at Mercy Hospital Iowa City. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday March 25, 2013 at Brosh Chapel in Solon, located at 100 S. Cedar Street. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Solon. Gladys was born November 12, 1933 in Solon, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Jansa) Vanorny. Her parents died when Gladys was 14 years old. She and her brother, Elmer ran the farm and went to school. They milked 12 cows before and after school. Gladys married George B. Chaloupka on April 6, 1954 in Iowa City. She enjoyed camping, polka fests; sewing, cooking and she loved reading cookbooks and enjoyed listening to Barefoot Becky. Gladys is survived by her husband, George of 59 years; her children, Glenda Burgy and special friend Bob of Saratoga, CA and Gerald (Kim) Chaloupka of Solon; grandchildren, Kyle Burgy, Kirsten Burgy, Brooke (Dalton) Meyer, Jerad Chaloupka, and Logan Chaloupka; her great-grandchildren; Ava, Gabriel, and baby Meyer due in July, her brother, Elmer (Iona) Vanorny of Solon, a niece; LaVina (Dave) Vanorny-Barcus of Madrid and best friend Pat Fiala. She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew Dan Vanorny. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Solon Fire Department and / or Camp Courageous.
