Gerald “Jerry” Ambrose McCoy, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, 2121 Bowling Street SW, Cedar Rapids. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre are assisting the family with arrangements.

Jerry was born on August 11, 1943, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Leonard and Lola (Barker) McCoy. He graduated from Monmouth High School with the Class of 1962. On June 11, 1966, he married the love of his life, Linda Jorgensen, in Maquoketa, Iowa. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared 60 years of marriage filled with love, family, adventure, and countless cherished memories.

Jerry devoted many years of his career to ACME Electric as an electrician and was a proud, longtime member of the IBEW Local 405. He was known for his strong work ethic, dependable nature, and dedication to his craft.

An avid outdoorsman, Jerry found great joy in skiing, canoeing, hunting, archery, camping, fishing, and riding RAGBRAI. He and Linda traveled throughout all 50 states, creating memories with their children and family that will never be forgotten. Whether on an adventure, enjoying the outdoors, or simply spending time with the people he loved, Jerry treasured every opportunity to make memories with his family and friends.

He was a dedicated member of the Anamosa Bow Hunters Club and St. Ludmila Catholic Church.

Jerry is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 60 years, Linda; his children, Mike (Sandy) McCoy and Kelly (Joe) Smith; his grandchildren, Victoria (Bryan) Rohrbach, Marissa Smith, Connor (Sami) McCoy, and Miranda (Will) Avey; his great-grandchildren, Rylee and Callahan; his sisters, Betty Anderson, Linda Watters, Karon (Greg) Redfern, Janet (Ken) Nelson, and JoAnn (Steve) Determan; brother-in-law Paul Petrik; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Lola McCoy; Parents-in-law Alvin and Arlene Jorgensen; his sisters, Jean McCoy and Sharon Horner; His brother-in-law Garry Jorgensen; and sisters- in-law, Lucinda Jorgensen and Bonnie Petrik.

Jerry will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his kindness, strength, and wonderful sense of humor. He had a way of making people feel welcome and was deeply loved by those fortunate enough to know him. His greatest joy was his family, and the love he gave them will remain a part of them forever.

His legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, in the stories they share, the adventures they remember, and the countless lives he touched throughout his 82 years. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories of a life well lived and a man deeply loved will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
