George Andrew Skalsky, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday morning, November 14, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center following a short illness.

A gathering for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids.  Private family inurnment will be at a later date.

George was born on October 27, 1918 in Ely the son of Edward and Frances (Cach) Skalsky.  He served in the United States Air Force during World War II and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant.  George married Dorothy Muir on June 2, 1945 at Fort Benton, Montana.  George owned and operated Skalsky's Sinclair Gas Station for sixty years retiring in 1996.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Dorothy Skalsky of Cedar Rapids; daughter Vicki Hodgson and husband William of Versailles, Kentucky; grandchildren Jodi Millsap and husband James of Burlington, Kentucky, and Eric Hodgson of Versailles, Kentucky.  Also surviving is George's beloved dog Precious.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.

A memorial fund has been established for Mercy Hospice.
