George William Morarie, 82 of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital. Services will be 9 a.m. Friday, October 12th at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will follow in Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, October 11th at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. George was born December 31, 1929 in Independence, the son of Ray and Lydia (Masters) Morarie. He married Leona Ohlhauser on November 26, 1966. George proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving on the USS Orleck. George was a machinist for over 22 years and served as chief union steward with Eaton Corporation in Savanna, Illinois. Following retirement he worked for many years at Brothers III in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed dancing with his wife, fishing, camping, hunting and spending time with his family. He was a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW Post 788, American Legion Post 298, and AMVETS George is survived by his wife, Leona; son Steve Morarie of Cedar Rapids; daughter Teresa (Bob) Bauer of Savanna, Illinois; one granddaughter Alicia Bauer; his beloved dog Susie; three sisters Florence Van Wagner, Doris (Bernie) Schultz, and Norma Bradley and a brother Glenn Morarie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Jim Eggers. Memorials may be directed to the family.
