Fred "Sonny" Philipp, 81, of Palo, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Funeral Mass will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Sulek Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family after 12 p.m., Wednesday at the church, prior to mass. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre are assisting the family at this time.

Fred was born on June 11, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Frederick and Emily (Tomas) Philipp. He enjoyed gardening, his pets, casinos and fishing, but above all enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Sonny Is survived by his wife Jennifer Philipp; children Gary(Teresa) Philipp, Kenny (Kim) Philipp, Kim (Robert) Minyard, Chris Philipp, Lisa (Bill) Whitters, Shannon (Lisa) Philipp, Dan Philipp, Jen (Jon) Shebetka, Lindsey (Zach) Nelson, Hunter Philipp and Stone (Abbe) Philipp; 24 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; siblings Faith (Steve) Seehawer, Teresa Byrne,Hope Hugh, Mary (Bill) Brecht, Pat (John) Roberts, Ed (Cheri) Philipp, Ann Ranard, Dave (Teresa) Philipp, Tina (Tom) Anderson, and Paul (Diana) Philipp; sister in law Jeanne Philipp; brother in law Terry Schneekloth; and many nieces and nephews.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Emily Philipp; Daughter Kerry Philipp; grandsons Drake Whitters, and John Philipp; sisters Patience Jellen and Charity Schneekloth; brothers Danny Philipp and Phil Philipp; and brothers in law Jake Byrne and Rhainey Hugh.
