Frank Peter Joens Jr., 87, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Ely, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 7, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church with Fr. Ken Glaser presiding.  Burial will be in Czech National Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW.

Frank was born in Cedar Rapids on February 22, 1935, the son of Frank Sr. and Martha (Kuncl) Joens. Frank graduated from Wilson High School in 1953, and married his high school sweetheart, Janice Ann Stodola, on February 9, 1957, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church. Frank founded True Art Carpet in Czech Village, which later became Joens Bros Interiors when his twin brother George joined him. The brothers had a commercial that ran during the Sunday Morning Czech Party with the jingle, "The Whole Town's Talking About the Joens Boys." Frank later became a realtor and later started Lakeland Partners in Solon and Joens Construction, where he built residential homes.

He was an avid boater, snowmobiler, and horseman, and was happiest when he was outdoors. One of his greatest loves was traveling nationally with his daughter, Kris, showing Quarter horses. Frank had many talents building, fixing, and tinkering, and mentoring others along the way. He enjoyed wintering in Texas, spending time with family at the cabins in Coralville Lake and Lake Delhi.  He was very proud of his daughters, his Czech heritage, as well as being very patriotic.  Frank lived life to the fullest and always made it an adventure.

Frank is survived by his wife Jan, his daughters Lisa (Mike) Guge, Kris (Steve) Kleiman, and Molly (Troy) Evans; three grandchildren Kirby Guge and fiancé DoniRae, Paityn Evans and fiancé Alex, and Kennedy Evans. He is also survived by his brother Jim (Karen) Joens, sister-in-law Terri Joens, and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; brother George and sister-in-law Kay, brother Don, and nephew Jason Joens.

Memorials can be directed to St. Ludmila Catholic Church.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the BrightStar aides and UnityPoint Hospice for their loving, compassionate care of Dad.
