A Celebration Gathering and Ice Cream Social will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at The Avacentre at Brosh Chapel in Solon, located at 100 S. Cedar Street. Frances was born in New Haven, Connecticut, on June 27, 1919. Her parents Eva and Samuel were immigrants from today's Belarus and Poland. She was one of five siblings. Following high school she was a dental assistant. After work and on weekends she was a volunteer nursing aide in New Haven hospitals during WWII. She kept this from her parents because she knew they wouldn't approve. She married Louis Rosenberg Ross in 1948. They later moved to Madison, Wisconsin in 1962. After they divorced she moved to Phoenix followed by Las Vegas. She came to Iowa City in 2003 to be near her daughter Claire. Throughout her life Frances was always involved in volunteer work wherever she lived including UIHC. She loved music and attended classical concerts throughout her life. In her 20's she went to USO dances and loved it when Glen Miller came to town. She encouraged her children to listen and play music although she never played herself. Her hobby was cooking and collecting recipes even into her 90's. She always enjoyed traveling and was able to fly to California last June to meet her first Great-Grandchild Deacon. She always said her secret to long life is to keep active! Survivors include her daughterClaire Hockley and her husband Jack Terndrup of Iowa City; her son, Jeff (Diane) Ross of Woodland Hills, California; Grandchildren Melodey (Brad) Colyer and Harmony Ross of the Los Angeles area. Claire wishes to thank the Staff of the following for keeping Frances healthy and making her smile: Bowman Chiropractic, Home Safe, Dr.Wilbur @ UIHC Family Medicine, and Lantern Park.
