Floyd A. Sanborn, 89 of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Graveside Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2008 at Czech National Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the Hanford American Legion Post 5.   Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW.
Floyd was born November 16, 1918 in Faribault, Minnesota, the son of Fred and Emma Duffina Sanborn.  He married Mardelle Anderson on May 17, 1938, in Kohaka, Missouri.  Floyd served two years in Germany from 1943 until 1945 with the 397 th Armored Infantry Division, receiving 2 Overseas Service Bars, European-African-Middle Easter Theater Ribbon W/3 Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.  He worked at Link Belt Speeder and Nissen Trampoline for over thirty nine years.  Floyd was an active sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and all outdoor sports.  He was a very hardworking man.  He could fix or build anything.  He was one of the kindest and most generous people you could ever want to know.  Floyd loved spending time with his family and especially the grandkids.
Floyd is survived by his children, Sandra (Don) McArtor of Cedar Rapids, Patricia (Ron) Porazil of Belle Plaine, Roxanne (Dennis) Scofield of Shueyville, and Michael (Kathy) Sanborn of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren;  six great-greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers Kenneth and Gordon; four sisters Marie Gloe, Lucille Degen, Lillian Dlouhy, Priscilla Dvorak.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
