Florence Hodges, 89 of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 26, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital. Homegoing services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2014 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Damian Epps presiding. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Florence was born May 20, 1925 in Ridgley, Tennessee, the daughter of Tom and Virgie (Johnson) Ballentine. She married the late Marshall C. Nickelson in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in December of 1943. Florence was united in marriage to Willie B. Hodges Sr. on June 19, 1965 in Cedar Rapids and remained married until his passing on July 4, 1995. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church were she was officer over numerous auxiliaries. Florence is survived by her children Marshall Nickelson Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Charlotte (Charles) Julion of Waterloo, Ronald (Cathy) Nickelson of Memphis, Tennessee, Charles (Carolyn) Hodges, Willie Hodges II, Larken Hodges, Michael (ToShanna) Hodges all of Cedar Rapids, Shirley Diane (Clyde) Woods, and Jenny Mae Echols both of Memphis, Tennessee, as well as a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Cora Crittendon and Evelyn Harrison, a son Willie B. Hodges Jr. two daughters Linda Hodges and a daughter in infancy Virginia Lee Nickelson. A memorial fund has been established in her name at Brosh Chapel, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404.
