Evelyn Ruth Stastny, 84 of 1290 Banner Valley Road, Ely died Wednesday afternoon, August 17, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2005 at St. John Lutheran Church in Ely, with Rev. Jeff Borgwardt, officiating. Interment will follow at Rogers Grove Cemetery, rural Ely. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids and for an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Evelyn was born on July 31, 1921 in Ely, the daughter of Frank and Tillie Rousar Elias. She was a graduate of Ely High School. She married Lloyd Stastny on May 24, 1948 in Des Moines. Prior to her marriage, Evelyn worked for McKesson's in Cedar Rapids. Evelyn was devoted to her church and family. She was very fond of her community and her many friends. Evelyn always enjoyed living in Ely. She was the first paper carrier for the Cedar Rapids Gazette in Ely. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. Music and dancing were also things that Evelyn enjoyed. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxillary, Happy Homemakers Club, and was a 15 year 4-H leader.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters Janine (Lee) Norman and Annette (Butch) Wieneke both of Ely; a brother Donovan (Sharry) Elias of Fridley, MN; sister in law Ozella Jane Hoffman and a brother in law Frank Upah both of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren Tiffany (Jeff) Ontiveros, Elli Wieneke, Erin Wieneke, and Brett Wieneke; nieces Debra (Steve) Elias-Morse and Cynthia Elias; nephew Bob (Julie) Eias; great nieces Chloe Morse and Sylvia Elias; great nephew Henry Elias.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd on December 28, 1993, sister Eunice Elias, a sister in infancy Helen Elias, and a nephew David Elias.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
