July 9, 2018
Evelyn Nunemaker, age 90 of Hiawatha, passed away Monday, July 9, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family after a battle with breast cancer. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018, at Brosh Chapel & The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will follow in Lafayette Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 12, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brosh Chapel.
Evelyn was born March 7, 1928, in Millersburg, the daughter of Charles and Alta Weeks. She graduated from Millersburg School in 1946. She moved to Cedar Rapids in 1946 where she worked at Bishops and 3 Minute Oats. She was united in marriage to Richard "Dick" Nunemaker on January 24, 1953. Later, she became a stay-at-home wife and mother to her five children, while helping her husband with his construction business. Evelyn enjoyed baking, gardening, canning, and reading natural home remedies. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Evelyn and Richard were very family-oriented, whether it was watching Lawrence Welk, Wheel of Fortune, going boating on the reservoir, cruising around town, or attending the grand kids' activities. She was also an active member of the Lafayette Christian Church where she and Richard attended.
Evelyn is survived by her children Penny (Steve) Gaskill of Lebanon, Tennessee; Shirley (Joseph) Jensen of Walker; Diane (Dennis) Clinton of Center Point; Nancy (Maynard) Ormiston of Cedar Rapids; Allan (Johnna) Nunemaker of Rowley; twelve grandchildren: Justine and Heath Omar, April (Chris) Steuhm, Anthony, Morgan and Tanner Clinton, Kayla, Braydon and Landon Nunemaker, Colton Stoddard; six great-grandchildren Alexus, Abby, Mackanzie, Austin, Bryson, and Holden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard Nunemaker of 62 years, her brothers, Carroll and Leroy Weeks, her sister, Ruth (LaVaughn) Small, and Loretta (Wes) Dloughy.
We would like to thank Julie, Bobbie Jo, and Dana and the Unity Point Hospice for all their help and kindness through this difficult time.
We loved our Mom and Grandmother and thank her for all the love, advice, and kindness she showed us through all her years.
