Evelyn Adeline Kucera, 87 of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, February 16 at St. Lukes Hospital after a short illness.  Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 20 at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church with Fr. Tom McDermott presiding.  Burial will follow at Czech National Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids where there will be a 5 p.m. Vigil and a 6 p.m. rosary.  Visitation will also be one hour prior to services Monday at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church.
Evelyn was born on the family farm in rural Cedar Rapids, on January 25, 1919, the daughter of John and Mary Petrak Louvar.  She married Elmer E. Kucera on August 10, 1938.  Evelyn and Elmer farmed in the Fairfax area for many years, and later moved to Cedar Rapids.
Evelyn was a devoted member of St. Ludmilas.  She was active in the Kolache Festival each year, and bought the Kolache machine for the Festival.  Among the things that were very important in her life, were spending time with family and friends.  She enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening, flowers and playing cards with her Card Clubs.   She was especially proud of her Czech Heritage.
Evelyn is survived by a son Don (Judy) of Swisher; daughters Delores Gifford of Cedar Rapids, Marie (Nile) Brown of Robins, and Pat Collins of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren Philip and Darla Kucera, Al (Brenda) Gifford, Deborah (Vincent) Menezes, Shannon Kopecky(Dani Fitzpatrick), Tammy Kopecky, and Ashley Collins  ; two greatgrandchildren Micheal and Emily Gifford;  and a daughter in law Darlene Kucera of Newhall.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Elmer, a son Leonard, a son in law John Gifford, and a sister Alma Louvar.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends – she was an exceptional mother and person.
