Evelyn Elizabeth Dvorak, 87 of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday August 24, 2012 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel. Evelyn was born April 14, 1925 in Fairfax, IA, the daughter of Frank and Camellia (Asenbener) Vanorny. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1942. Evelyn married Emil L. Dvorak on April 24, 1946 at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church. During WWII she worked at Killian's Department Store and Collins Radio. After her children were born she returned to Collins Radio and retired in 1980 after 30 years of service. Evelyn was past president of the Women's Auxiliary VFW Post 788 and a life member, a deacon at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church, member of the Guild of National Czech and Slovak Museum & Library. She volunteered at Seminole Valley Historic Farm and Brucemore. Evelyn enjoyed playing double deck pinnacle, bus trips, crossword puzzles and painting ceramics. Evelyn is survived by her children; Gary F. Dvorak, Marrilyn (Lee) Merta of Cedar Rapids, grandchildren; Roger (Michelle) Merta of Des Moines, Kim Naber of Cedar Rapids, four great-grandchildren; Andrew and Ashlee Naber and Samantha and Jessica Merta. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Emil. The family would like to thank the Mercy Medical Center for their wonderful medical and emotional support.
