Eugene King, 77 of Solon died Tuesday, June 17 at Mercy Hospital from a brief illness. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21 at Brosh Chapel in Solon. Burial to follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Solon. Brosh Chapel in Solon is in charge of arrangements.
Eugene was born in Moss, Tennessee, on December 5, 1929.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 37 years, Gladys of Solon, daughter Pam (Chuck) Wilson of Cedar Rapids and sons Steve (Jane) King of Coralville and Terry (Lou Ann) King of Solon; one grandson, two granddaughters, one great-grandson and two great-granddaughters. Also surviving is his brother Glenn King of Oakley, Illinois; Sisters Bertha Greenwell, Cooksville, Tennessee and Bertie (Carl) Davidson, Fairfield, and several nieces and nephews. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents Otto and Etta (Hestand) King, sister Eva Copass and brothers Garland and Ted.
Eugene farmed in his earlier years and worked for Hills Grain and Feed, Iowa City Redi-Mix, CH Wilson Trucking Company and most recently was the manager of the Solon American Legion. Eugene was an avid sports fan, especially Iowa football, but his greatest love was fishing. He was a member of the Solon American Legion Stinocher Post 460 and a former volunteer firefighter for the Solon Fire Department.
