Eugene "Gene" Lee Barrette, 65 of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29th at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Gene was born September 14, 1947 in Norfolk, Nebraska. He married Myra Spores on October 11, 1968 in Cedar Rapids. Gene proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked at North Star Steel in Wilton for many years as a millman until his retirement. Gene was a car and motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and the time spent with his family. Gene is survived by his wife, Myra; two sons Gene (Theresa) Barrette of Marion, and Dave (Amy) Barrette of Coggon; his fourteen grandchildren; his brothers Steve Barrette (Susan) of Thornton, Colorado, and Bob (Ronda) McFall of Swanton, Nebraska; his sister, Pamela (Dan) Goodell of Shellsburg and sister-in-law Sheryl McFall of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded into death by his parents and grandparents. Memorials may be directed to the family.
