Emily Vanourny, 98 of Fairfax, died Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center in Cedar Rapids. Services will be Friday, January 6, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will follow in Blain Cemetery in Swisher. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Emily Raim was born June 14, 1913 in Swisher, the daughter of Lewis and Frances (Drahos) Raim. She was united in marriage to Allan Vanourny on July 10, 1940. Together they partnered in farming in the Walford area for many year, retiring to Fairfax in 1979. Emily was known for her baking, especially her kolaches, pies and cakes which she generously shared. Emily enjoyed fishing, square dancing and being with her husband and her best friend, Allan. She will be fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched. Emily is survived by a nephew, Kenneth (Marcella) Raim of North Liberty, a brother-in-law Louis Vanourny of Fairfax, a sister-in-law Martha Vanourny of Marion and many other nieces and nephews. Emily was preceded in death by her husband Allan, on July 8, 2011, sisters Albia Raim and Marie (Mary) Bistricky, brothers William Raim, Louis Raim, Jerry Raim and Lester Raim.
