Elmer Joseph Sedlacek, 85, of Swisher, died Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice Home.  Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.  Burial will be 1:45 p.m. in Dupont Cemetery rural Swisher.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, where there will be a 6 p.m. vigil followed by a rosary.

Elmer was born November 22, 1921 in rural Swisher, the son of Joseph and Eleanor Dvorak Sedlacek.  He graduated from Shueyville High School.  Elmer farmed nearly his entire life in the Swisher area.  He enjoyed spending time working and maintaining the Sedlacek Century Farm, even after his retirement.  He served his community as the Monroe Township clerk and cemetery sexton for many years.  He was also a charter member of the Rathkamp Matchcover Society.  Elmer was a very devoted husband and caregiver to his wife Mary Rose for many years.

Elmer is survived by his wife Mary Rose; a daughter Delores Sedlacek; and a brother Marvin (Barbara) Sedlacek of Surf City, New Jersey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Diane Sedlacek on October 7, 1987; and an infant brother Wilmer.
