Elizabeth A. Kacere, 90, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021, at Hiawatha Care Center.  Visitation will be Monday, August 30th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. George Orthodox Church, 3650 Cottage Grove Ave SE. A Trisagion Service will follow at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, August 31st, at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Orthodox Church, with burial to follow at the St. George Cemetery. Masks are strongly encouraged at both the visitation and the funeral.  Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids are overseeing the arrangements.

Elizabeth was born October 14, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Nicholas F. and Lena C. (Salome) Shadid. She was united in marriage to Robert Kacere on September 28, 1961, in Mt. Carroll, IL.  Elizabeth worked in her family's business, Nick's Fine Food, eventually taking over as manager. She also ran a coffee shop at the Executive Plaza Building. Elizabeth then worked for over 29 years at Hy-Vee Drugtown (Mt. Vernon Road), retiring in 2005.  She was a lifelong member of her beloved church, St. George Orthodox Church, volunteering her talents in many ways. She was awarded two certificates for Meritorious Service in 1982 and 1996.   Elizabeth was named Iowa's Outstanding Senior Volunteer by Home Instead Senior Care in 2013. She enjoyed cooking and baking and then sharing the results with her friends and family. Elizabeth also was a talented decorator and loved to make holiday displays and assist with wedding receptions, supplying beautifully displayed foods and décor. A very thoughtful person, she constantly sent many cards to others. She also was a collector of angels.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Patti Kacere of Marion and son Kevin (Connie) Kacere of Des Moines; her grandchildren Jennifer Kacere, Emily Kacere, Lauren (David) Kaniuk, and Leah (David) Gibelyou; her sister Shirley (Tony) Cook of Minnesota; godchildren Mike C. David, Alexis Homsey and Gregory Homsey; as well as many loved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister Joann.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. George Scholarship Fund.
