Eleanor Vavricek, 95, of Center Point, died Friday morning (May 2, 2014) at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2014 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, with Reverend Sheri Andersen presiding. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014. She was born October 9, 1918 near Solon, to Frank and Mary Agnes (Kopetsky) Lorence. She married the late Frank E. Vavricek (1916-1987) on December 19, 1939, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua. Eleanor and Frank farmed for many years in Linn County, retiring in Center Point. She was also employed as a waitress for several years at Armstrongs and Happy Chef in Cedar Rapids. Eleanor's favorite pastime was going to dances and listening to her favorite music. She enjoyed gardening, canning and was well known for baking kolaches for the enjoyment of many through the years. She is survived by her son, Melvin (Tammy) of Center Point; her daughter, Mardene (Larry) Hinton of Kankakee, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Rodney, Cary, Nick, Tyler, Alicia Davis, and Dennis and Dustin Hinton; four great-grandchildren; a special friend, Ray Novotny; her sister, Marcella; as well as several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be directed to Center Point Ambulance and or to Hospice of Mercy in her name.
