Edwin J. Hynek, 86, of Swisher, died February 16, 2006 at home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday at First Presbyterian Church near Ely with Reverend Bob David, officiating.  Friends may register one hour prior to services Sunday at the church.  In accordance with his wishes, Edwin has been cremated.  Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Edwin was born on January 17, 1920 near Swisher, the son of Joseph E. and Mary (Kvetensky) Hynek.  He married LaNelle Killingsworth April 15, 1944 in Okolona, Arkansas.  Ed farmed from the time he was thirteen until his death except for the four years he served during WWII in the Army Air Corps.  He graduated from pilot's school and was called back to Stuttgart, Arkansas as a twin engine advanced instructor.  He was a charter member of Swisher American Legion Post #671.  He was a member of First Presbyterian Church near Ely having served many years as a deacon.  Edwin loved the farm and was proud to have never been in a farm program.  He was an avid reader and historian and enjoyed mushrooming, winemaking, fishing, and card playing, as well as following his family's many activities.  Ed was a good friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Edwin is survived by three sons Jim (Sandy), Bill (Angie), and Phil (Cindy); two daughters Barbara (Marvin) Wittrock and Pat (Randy) Rohlena; seventeen grandchildren Curt (Kim) and Brian Hynek, Joe, Amy, and Mandy Hynek, Cammie (T.J.) Heefner, Nicky (D.J.) Wilkinson, Trent (Kimi), Paul (Nikki), Megan, and Theresa Hynek, Luke, John (Tami), Katie, Julie (Kenny) and Becky Wittrock, Casey Netolicky; two step grandchildren Justin and Allison Rohlena; seven great-grandchildren Jessie, Calvin, and Coilee Hynek, Jade Hynek, Brogan and Chloe Heefner, and Ally Wilkinson.
He was preceded in death by his wife LaNelle, his parents, brother Joe, and one grandson.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage that contributions be made to the memorial fund which will be distributed to Mercy Hospice or to your favorite charity in Edwin's memory.
