Dorothy E. Slezak, 99, of Western, died Wednesday, January 13 at her son's home in Swisher. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 18 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids , located at 2121 Bowling Street SW , with burial to follow in Czech National Cemetery . Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel.

Dorothy was born July 18, 1911 in rural Ely, the daughter George and Mary (Vittengl) Clark. She married Paul B. Slezak Sr. on June 7, 1933 in Ely. Dorothy and Paul farmed in the Ely area for majority of their lives. In later years, she worked for College Community Schools and The Cedar Rapids Horsemans Club. She enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, caring for her John Deere tractor, baking kolaches and pies, cooking, canning and spending time with her family.

Dorothy is survived by her children Dolores ( Milton ) Horak of Waterloo , Paul Jr. (Bonnie) Slezak of Ely and Wayne (Judith) Slezak of Swisher. Dorothy, was known as "Babi" to her eleven grandchildren Debbie Jo, Reggie, Joseph, Heidi, Andrea, Angela, Steven, Dawn, Bret, Shawn and Todd; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, a daughter Amber Kay Bendorf, and a grandson Brian Bendorf; sisters Minnie and Gladys and her brothers Charles, Claude and Tommy.

Dorothy will be greatly missed by her loving family and the many children she impacted in her life.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.

The Clock of Life - The clock of life is wound but once, and no one has the power to tell just when the hands will stop – at a late or early hour. Now is the only time you own. Live it, love it, and toil with it at will. Don't waste the time for the clock may soon be still.
