Dorothy Ellison, 91, of Mt. Vernon, died Thursday, April 5 at the Solon Care Center.  Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11 at Brosh Chapel in Solon.  Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 10 at Brosh Chapel in Solon and for an hour prior to services Wednesday at the chapel.
Dorothy was born March 10, 1916, in Johnson County near Oakdale, the daughter of Philip and Anna Feldman Gough.  Dorothy went to high school in Iowa City at St. Mary's, graduating in 1933.  She attended the University of Iowa for two years.  Dorothy met Gordon Ellison at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in rural Solon and were married November 26, 1941, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. They lived and farmed in the North Liberty area until the mid 1950s and then moved to a farm north of Mt. Vernon.  Dorothy worked at the Cornell College Business Office and  the Cole Library for 20 years. She then began a second career as a secretary and office manager for a local advertising agency and decided to retire at the age of 80. She was also a long standing member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Century Club in Mount Vernon.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Bill Ellison of Mt. Vernon; James Ellison of Iowa City; Margaret Ellison-Duffy of Mt. Vernon; and Mary Colee (Ted) of Eugene, Oregon; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marge Gough of Coralville and Mary Wolrab of Mt. Vernon, and a brother-in-law, Arlo Ellison (Jean) of Stevensville, Montana.  Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Gordon, who died September 14, 2002, a sister Geneva Dee and brothers Leonard and Lawrence Gough.

Dorothy loved cooking for special events and celebrations. She had an Irish infectious sense of humor, was quick with a smile and a helping hand. Dot loved traveling, including trips to Europe and Russia, and throughout the United States.  Vegetable and flower gardening, antique collecting and spending time with her family were all things she loved to do.
Memorials may be directed to Sts. Peter and Paul Foundation, Camp Courageous or to the family at 710 Ivanhoe Road, Mt. Vernon, IA 52314.
