Doris Emmeline Lingel, 79 of Solon, died Sunday, May 31, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church in Ely.  Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon and for an hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Doris was born September 18, 1929 in rural Ely, the daughter of Charles and Mabel (Zobel) Jiroutek.  Doris attended country schools and graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids.  Following employment as a secretary at the Borden Company, she married Wilbur "Bud" Lingel on October 28, 1954 at St. John Lutheran Church in Ely.  She spent the next fifty years as a farmwife in Johnson County.  Doris was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, an active member of Dorcas Circle, and enjoyed making quilts for world relief and homeless and foster kids.

Doris is survived by her husband, Wilbur "Bud" Lingel; children, Jeff Lingel of Coralville and Sue (Drew) Smith of Hiawatha; granddaughters, Allison and Mindy Lingel, and Shannon and Rachel Smith; and her sister, Arlene (Claire) Doyle of Solon.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
