Donna Mae Zabokrtsky, 79 of Walford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway with Fr. Dustin Vu presiding. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery in Norway. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Church, where there will be a 3:30 p.m. rosary. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is caring for Donna and her family.
Donna was born November 12, 1936 in Walford, the daughter of William and Helen (Schulte) Rotter. She attended and graduated from Walford High School in 1955. Donna was united in marriage to Glen E. Frese. To this union, five children were born. She was then united in marriage to Terry Zabokrtsky at Saint John XXIII in December 2001.
Donna worked as a sales clerk for 15 years at The Cellar Door / Red Geranium and the Christmas Room in Amana. She also worked at Rockwell International for many years. Donna was a beloved mother, homemaker and wife for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and especially her grandchildren. Donna enjoyed collecting ANRIS, antiques, wooden and locally hand crafted items. She loved shopping, decorating, crafting and tending to her outdoor flowers and garden. Donna treasured decorating for the holidays by sharing her Christian values while creating meaningful traditions.
Donna received all her sacraments at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Walford. Donna volunteered at St. Michaels Catholic Church as a religious education instructor.
Those left to cherish Donna's memory include her husband Terry; four children Cynthia (Daniel) Thill of Pleasantville, Melanie (Neil) Larrance of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jean Hynek and friend Rob Malley of Swisher and Glen (Karen) Frese of Watkins; fifteen grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters Shirley
(Richard) Schulte of Cedar Rapids and Phyllis (Bernard) Marak of Swisher; a brother James (Linda) Rotter of Walford; a brother-in-law Donald Stagg of Cedar Rapids and an aunt Laverne Fisher of Cedar Rapids.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her son Jeffry Frese, and a sister Mary Stagg.
