Donald Frank Pospishil, 84 of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, December 12, 2014 in his home, surrounded by his two children, from a brief illness. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Full military rites will be conducted by the Swisher American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Brosh Chapel. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. Donald was born October 17, 1930, the son of Frank and Margaret (Feierereisen) Pospishil. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1949 and the University of Iowa with a degree in Business. Don served in the United States Air Force from 1951- 1954. He taught in the auto mechanics department at Kirkwood College and worked at the City of Cedar Rapids Assessors Office for many years until retiring in 2008. Don enjoyed going to Hawkeye Downs Race Track and tinkering in his garage. In June 2014, he was inducted into the Wall of Fame at Hawkeye Downs. He was a member with the Swisher American Legion for many years in the Color Guard and served as past Chaplain. Don is survived by his children Ann (Jeff) Steege and son Joe Pospishil both of Cedar Rapids; his brother Jim Pospishil of Brownsville, Texas; his sister Elaine Pospishil of Sierra Vista, Arizona, former wife and friend Claudia Pospishil of Iowa City, and his cat Leo. Don was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be directed to the family.
