Dot Pisney lost her best friend and the love of her life when Don died Friday, July 17, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital of a long illness with COPD. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2015 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Services for Don will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Brosh Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Donald was born May 1, 1928 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Edward and Olive (Sindelar) Pisney. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. Don was united in marriage to Dorothy "Dot" Justin on September 5, 1959 at Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church. Don farmed and worked in the construction trades, retiring out of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 125. One of Don's favorite hobbies was flying. He earned his pilot's license before he received his driver's license. Don enjoyed woodworking, organic gardening, baking bread, making beer, and his dogs. Don is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Dorothy "Dot"; his daughter Pam Hammers of Cedar Falls; his son Edward (Karen) Pisney of Cedar Rapids; his four grandchildren Sam, Abby, Nathan and Zachary. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law Terry Hammers. Memorials may be directed to Unity Point Hospice in his name.
