Donald Charles Kaplan, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, August 17, 2022.  Celebration of Life services will be Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will be in Czech National Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services Wednesday, at Brosh Chapel.

Donald was born February 16, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles and Ida (Scharf) Kaplan.  He graduated from Cedar Rapids Wilson High School. Don served in the United States Marines.   He was united in marriage to Shirley Powers on September 20, 1987, at Trinity Lutheran Church.  He owned and operated Kaplan Builders, specializing in custom carpentry.  He enjoyed gardening, tinkering with small projects and western movies.

Don is survived by his wife Shirley; his niece Karen (Brad) Shultz; his nephew Scott Ramsay; Shirley's children Vern Hersom, Debra Hersom and Susan Hersom.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister Donna Mae (Larry)Ramsay.
