Donald Francis DeCoster, 79 of Swisher, died Thursday, March 26, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2015 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery, near Swisher. Visitation will be from 3 until 6 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Brosh Chapel. Don was born October 18, 1935 in Iowa City, the son of Frank and Mystel (Grier) DeCoster. Don graduated from St. John's Catholic School in Victor. Don married Ruth Bullard on May 7, 1955. She died on July 7, 2003. He married Charlotte "Chotty" Osborn on October 22, 2005. Don and his two brothers started DeCoster Construction in the early 60's. In 1965, he started working at Custom Cabinets & Wood Products. In 1982, he became co-owner of Custom Cabinets & Millwork in Cedar Rapids. Following a fire in 2005, the company moved to Marion, located at 295 12th Street. Don was a member of the Cedar Rapids Horsemans Club, serving as former President and The Early Ford Car Club. He was proud of his work as a master carpenter. Don was a long time collector of Western memorablia, with his friends George Barta and Don Miller, as well collecting and restoring antique cars and trucks. Don is survived by his wife, Charlotte "Chotty"; children, Deborah (Jeffrey) Forsyth of Swisher, Rick DeCoster of Clinton and Darcy (Russell) Rayner of Walford; step-children Steve (Michelle) Slezak of Ely and Dawn (Matt) Thomas of Minot, North Dakota; grandchildren, Josh (Angie) Harris of Des Moines, Teresa (Trevor) Mercure of California, Travis Forsyth of Las Vegas, Nevada, Amanda Forsyth of Cedar Rapids, Kyle DeCoster, Kalvin DeCoster & Kody DeCoster, and Dalton and Austin Rayner; step-grandchildren Ben and Ryan Slezak and Khrissi Cooper; great-grandchildren Madison Forsyth, Sam, Wyatt and Emma Harris, Cameron Mercure, and Ethan and Klaire DeCoster; brother Dan (Sharon) DeCoster of Columbus, Montana; sister Joyce (Dan) Stevens of Bettendorf; brothers-in-law, Jack (Diane) Bullard of Clinton, Darrell (Judy) Osborn and Mike Osborn both of Cedar Rapids, Keith (Deb) Osborn of Dennison; sisters-in-law Minnie Silhanek and Sherri (Michael) Clark both of Cedar Rapids and his loving dog Lizzy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth; two sisters Dinah Marsh and Deloris Noel; and a brother Merlyn DeCoster. Memorials may be directed to the family.
