Donald D. Bryant, 93 of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at his home. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, with The Rev. Dr T. Edwards Breed of St. Andrew Lutheran Church presiding. Full military rites will be conducted following the services. Visitation will be an hour prior to services Friday at the chapel. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is handling arrangements. Donald was born November 16, 1917 in Marshalltown, the son of Leo and Gladys (Roundy) Bryant. He married Marcia J. Lura on December 12, 1941 in San Antonio, Texas. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was a proud member of the 14th Air Force Flying Tigers as well as the Marion American Legion. He retired as a Lt. Colonel Pilot after twenty eight years. He also worked for the State of Texas Employment Commission for ten years. During his military career he achieved the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He was an avid sports lover, including golf, the San Antonio Spurs and the Chicago Cubs. Don is survived by his children, Diane (Carl) David and Donald Jr. (Linda) Bryant; grandchildren, David Bryant, Sean Bryant, Kevin (Jennifer) Bryant, Jerry (Regina) Meyer, and James (Dawn) Meyer; 5 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, William (Hope) Bryant; and his sister-in-law Thelma Bryant. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcia; sister, Helen Bryant; brother, Rev. Herbert Bryant; and granddaughter, Jeannette Meyer. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Alzheimers Association, St. Andrews Lutheran Church or Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in his name.
