Dianne May Stanek, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit at Unity Point.  Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2018, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW.  Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery near Swisher.  Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Brosh Chapel.

Dianne was born April 9, 1944, in Central City, the daughter of Charles and Pauline (Larson) Tomash.  She graduated from Prairie High School, class of 1962, and then attended business college.  She grew up on a farm near Swisher and farmed all of her early adult life in the Swisher area.  Dianne worked at Cryovac / WR Grace for over 35 years until her retirement.  She enjoyed her retired life tremendously.  Dianne walked at Westdale Mall almost daily and attended Cryovac retiree luncheons with her friends.  She spent time traveling around Iowa and to other states.   Dianne was very proud of her daily routine, which she maintained in her home until the end.

Dianne was kind and very funny.  She was a natural storyteller and made all who met her know they were in the presence of someone special.  She had a passion for antiques, washing her car, and knowing the history of her family in Iowa.  She liked to can tomatoes and freeze corn and to give them as gifts.   She made excellent fudge and peanut clusters, which she sometimes shared and sometimes did not.

Dianne's parents instilled in her the belief that one of the most important things to be is a hard worker.  Dianne was a hard worker and selfless all her life, and touched the lives of her family and friends immeasurably.

Dianne is survived by her daughter Kim and son-in-law David of Kalamazoo, Michigan, her grandchildren Katie and Charlie, and her cat Polly.  She is also survived by her special friend Jim Frederick of Springville.

Dianne was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Unity Point Hospice and/or the Cedar Bend Valley Humane Society in her name.
