Dennis "The Outlaw" Lee Murphy, 67, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024.  He is survived by his children, Dana Murphy, Lynn Cassady, Donnie Murphy, honorary son, Matt Recker, grandchildren, Sully, Rogan, Jaden, Dalton, Rylan, Audrena, Hunter, Devin, Ethan, Owen, his ex-wife, Diane Malatek, his wonderful longtime girlfriend, Diane Synacek, his loving mother, Betty Poula, his siblings, RJ Murphy, Jody Stewart, Cheryl Studt, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his Father, Rodney "Joe" Murphy, his brother Kim Murphy, and stepfather, John Poula.

Dennis was a State champion wrestler and star quarterback for his hometown school, Mount Vernon Mustangs. He was very devoted to his team. So devoted that he may have burnt "MV" into Solon's football field, before the big game.... Allegedly, allegedly!

Known by many as "Dennis the Menace", "Pain in the a$$", "The Outlaw", "Hobbit", or "that weird dude over there, that's dancing with a chair" at bars or social functions, Dennis was stubborn and sometimes hard to love. He was short, but mighty. He could build anything and had the uncanny ability to jump out of windows, off bridges, or roofs, and somehow be ok. Well... Sort of. He built dirt bike tracks in the back yard for Dana so he could try his hand at motocross. Every year he would build an ice-skating rink for Lynn so she could pretend to be a figure skater.  He convinced the boy scouts to let him store the soap box derby track in the attic, so Donnie could play with it as much as wanted to. He took his grandkids to so many monster truck shows, and was excited when he found out he was going to be a great grandpa. He really immersed himself in things his children and grandchildren loved. Construction and building things were Dennis's life.  If you work in construction, feel free to wear your work clothes, he would've loved it. He'd probably ask you about what kind of knee pads you wear, and where you got them.

A "Celebration of Life" will be held at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, 312 1st St W, in Mt Vernon, Iowa on Friday, June 14th at 3p.m. (come and go as you please).  Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids are assisting the family during the difficult time.
