David Paul Staskal, 77 of Martelle, died Friday, July 17, 2015 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Private graveside services will be at a later date. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family. David was born October 30, 1937 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph Leo and Mary Evelyn (Kolek) Staskal. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1956. David served in the United States Army. Following, he received a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Kansas-Lawrence. He was employed with the Modesto, California School System for over forty years as a Physical/Occupational Therapist. David worked with children of all ages especially cerebral palsy students. His passions included gardening and playing a mean grand piano. David is survived by his three sisters Dorothy A. Hufford of Des Moines, Leota M. (Paul) Pospisil of Mt. Vernon and Joelyn (James) Ainley-Lepanto of Greensboro, Georgia; as well as his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy in his name.
