David D. Rummells, 66 of Cedar Rapids passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Heritage Nursing and Rehab after a long illness.  He was surrounded by family to comfort him.  A memorial mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 9 at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church, with Fr. Tom McDermott presiding.  Visitation will be an hour prior to services Friday at the church.  A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.  Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

David was born February 5, 1941 in Cedar Rapids, the son of C.J. (Tom) and Irene Klepach Rummells.  He attended Wilson and Jefferson High Schools, the University of Iowa, and Kirkwood Community College.  David married his high school sweetheart, Rita Valant in October 1962.  They raised 4 wonderful children and are blessed with 6 beautiful grandchildren. He cherished his family.  David was a member of IBEW Local 405 and was an avid photographer.

David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rita; his children: Laura (Jeff) Nelson of Des Moines, Jeff (Aimee) Rummells, and Jennifer (Scott) Tjaden all of Cedar Rapids, and Jim Rummells and friend Laurie Kohl; grandchildren: Jon and Emily Rummells, Matt and Jennifer Nelson, Madelyn and Max Tjaden; his mother-in-law Virginia Valant; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.  He was preceded in death by his parents C.J. (Tom) and Irene Klepach Rummells; his sister Cathy Hughes; and his father-in-law Francis Valant.

Memorials may be directed in David's name to the St. Ludmila's New Church Fund at 2107 J Street S.W., Cedar Rapids, 52404.
