David L. May, 78, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015. Dave donated his body to the University of Iowa. A celebration of his life will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Dave was born April 29, 1937 in Martelle, the son of Kenneth Lee and Mary (Kadlec) May. Dave graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1955 and Coe College in 1959. Dave was united in marriage to Barbara Moninger on March 16, 1968. He was a teacher/coach for forty years teaching in Laurel, Corning, and Chariton. The last thirty-three years of his career were spent at McKinley in Cedar Rapids. Dave is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Barbara; children Mike (Amy) May of Cedar Rapids, Michelle (Mike) Inman of Elgin, Illinois; two grandchildren Delaney May and Madden Inman; a sister Diane (John) Montgomery of Cedar Rapids; brothers-in-law Bob (Rosalie) Moninger of Iowa City and Tom (Peg) Moninger of Broomfield, Colorado; as well as his nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his nephew Scott Montgomery, and his in-laws, Jim and Charlene Moninger.
