David Chase
Jr.
August 30, 1958 – October 3, 2025
David J. Chase, Jr., a man whose extraordinary kindness and vibrant spirit enriched countless lives, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. He was 67.
A Celebration of David's life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW in Cedar Rapids.
David John was born on August 30, 1958, in Syracuse, New York, to David John, Sr., and Mary (Mortas) Chase. He graduated from Marshalltown High School and the University of Iowa. He had a successful career in Marketing Communications, cultivating lasting friendships with his co-workers in both Dallas, TX, and Iowa.
He was a beloved figure in his neighborhood, where he often paused to share a heartfelt conversation during his daily walks. David's generous nature meant he would never think twice about helping someone in need. He had a rare gift for seeing the best in others, always encouraging people's strengths and working to support their dreams. He left a legacy of human connection, demonstrating how a simple chat could brighten a day.
Family was truly everything to David. He married the love of his life, Cindy Marie Dohnalek, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on April 7, 1984.
Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family, especially his four grandchildren: Corban, Abigail, Elizabeth, and Sarah Neale. He possessed a wonderful talent for making even the simplest visit magical, inventing fun, imaginative games for his out-of-state grandchildren that they could hold close as precious memories until his next visit. A devoted husband and father, David leaves behind a blueprint of how to love fiercely and generously.
David also enjoyed exploring the country through his camera lens. He was a gifted photographer, taking frequent day trips to capture beautiful images, often sharing them alongside nuggets of history and geography. He had a particular love for traveling to the Mississippi River and photographing the majestic beauty of old planes.
David is survived by his wife, Cindy; his daughter and son-in-law, Lauren (Chase) Neale and Ben Neale; his four cherished grandchildren; his mother, Mary (Mortas) Chase; his father-in-law, David Dohnalek, and friend Norma Bowersox; his sister and brother-in-law, Laurie and Jeff Cobb; his brothers, Chris Chase and Doug (Tami) Chase; and brother-in-law Mark Dohnalek, wife Pat Dohnalek, and family.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Chase Sr.; his mother-in-law, Barbara Dohnalek; and his brother-in-law, Michael Dohnalek.
We will miss his laughter, his presence, and the sheer goodness of his heart, as will all the lives he so beautifully touched.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
