Darlene Delma Trachta, 93 of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, January 19, 2018 at Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice at Unity Point. Celebration of Life Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Brosh Chapel & The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Darlene was born June 21, 1924 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Jerry and Josephine (Dostal) Merta. She was united in marriage to Leonard Modracek on September 19, 1942. He passed away June 14, 1944. Darlene was united in marriage to Ernest "Ernie" Trachta on February 6, 1946. She enjoyed crafts, ceramics, sewing, crocheting, gardening and was a noted baker and cook. Darlene loved going to various Czech dances throughout the Midwest with Ernie regardless of the weather. She was proud of her Czech heritage thru writing, speaking and listening to the language. Darlene was a member of WFLA Lodge 262, CSA Prokop Velky Lodge 137, Czech Heritage Foundation, NCSML, and the College Township Friendship Circle.
Darlene is survived by her children, Bonnie (Marvin) Rohlena of Keystone, Cheryl (Tom) Elgas of The Villages, Florida, and Joyce Barnd and companion Jim Stratton of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jeff Rohlena, Kelly (Scott) Ronnebeck, Todd (Dani) Elgas, Chad (Jaime) Elgas, and James (Christy) Barnd and Jessica (Jesse) Christenson; twelve great-grandchildren; her siblings Delores (Larry) Phillippe of Belle Plaine, Dorothy Vavricek of Springville, and DeeAnn (George) Sundberg of Bertram; sister-in-law Peg Zach of Cedar Rapids, Judy Schreiber of Marion, and Betty Merta of Lisbon; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Leonard Modracek and Ernie Trachta, a grandson Steve Rohlena, and her brothers, Don (Maxine), Robert (Kate), Eldon (JoAnn), Kenneth, Richard, Marvin, and Jerry (Helen) Merta Jr.
Memorials may be directed to the NCSML in her name.
