Darlene L. Bulicek, 82 of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, July 18, 2009 at St. Luke's Hopsital. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Darlene was born July 30, 1926 in Fairfax, the daughter of Milo and Lillian Novak Sirowy. She married Charles Joseph Bulicek on November 17, 1947 at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church. Alongside Charlie, Darlene ran the Czech Inn Bar from 1964 thru the early 70's, in the Czech Village. She was very proud of her Czech Heritage. Darlene was a wonderful cook and loved to bake. She enjoyed decorating Christmas cookies with her grandkids. She loved flowers and had a passion for gardening. Darlene was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandma and will be missed by all.
Darlene is survived by her daughter, Diane (Marty) Gienapp of Anamosa; sons Greg Bulicek and Jeff (Paula) Bulicek both of Cedar Rapids; twelve grandchildren: Kelly, Matt, Carrie, Mike, Jakob, Nathan, Todd, C.J., Sadie, Kim, Lindsey, and Colton; ten greatgrandchildren; a brother Bob (Marlene) Sirowy of Fairfax; sister-in-law Dorothy Sirowy of Cedar Rapids, and numerous nieces and nephews, especially Sheryl, Lois, Sue, and a great niece Kimberly who went above and beyond.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles on January 13, 2008; a brother Don Sirowy and a sister Marion Malatek
